Description

In cultivation since 1731, this southern European, summer-blooming perennial bears single, rose-pink flowers that resemble Hollyhocks.  Thomas Jefferson noted planting this species along his winding flower border at Monticello in 1807.  Rosy Tree Mallow forms a bushy, erect shrub with maple-like leaves. Jefferson-documented: This plant was documented by Thomas Jefferson in his Garden Book, Notes on the State of Virginia, or other writings.

Sow seeds indoors 8-10 weeks before last frost date at 68 degrees F.  Before sowing, scarify and pre-soak seeds for 12 hours.  Transplant to 3" pots once they have several true leaves, then harden off and plant outdoors in well-drained soil after last frost.  Approximately 40 seeds per packet.
