Handcrafted by a local woodworking company, this shelf is a replica of one used upstairs at Monticello to house copies of books read by Thomas Jeffersons grandchildren. This type of simple hanging shelf is rare today, but was typical of plainly furnished rooms in the early 19th century. Dovetailed solid walnut with leather strap.
