In 1821, the United States Military Academy's faculty and cadets commissioned Philadelphia artist Thomas Sully to paint this famous depiction of Thomas Jefferson when he was 78 years old. It still hangs at West Point, along with portraits of George Washington and the academys first superintendent Jonathan Williams.
