The Astrolabium clock reproduces the annual orbit of the earth around the sun, with the earth rotating around its own axis once in twenty-four hours. The moon, in turn, revolves around the earth in 29.5 days completing a full rotation around its axis. This allows the reproduction of the different moon-phases as they are visible from earth. In the course of one year, the earth passes all twelve zodiac signs, months and individual days which are indicated on the brass disc. The transparency of the case with its curved, beveled glass panels and its hand-made glass dome allows a fascinating look at the four-bell Westminster chime movement with highly polished plates and the tellurium at the center of the dome.
The clock case is made of European Beech with an antique walnut finish. The glass dome is hand-made with hand cut stars. Brass columns and beveled glass sides are other striking features. The clock is a 8-day spring wound movement with Westminster chime on 4 polished bells, 11 jewel deadbeat Swiss escapement enamel dial, filigree hands and automatic night shut off. Made in Germany. 15”h x 13” diameter.
