The architectural order Thomas Jefferson chose for the entrance hall was Palladio’s version of the Ionic. The frieze, however, was based on an example from Corinthian temple of Antoninus and Faustina in Rome illustrated in Jefferson’s copy of the Jombert edition of Antion Desgodetz’s Edifices Antiques de Rome (Paris, 1779). The primary figure of this order was the griffin, the symbol of vigilance and courage. Our Griffin Pin is pewter with a gold finish. 2”w x 1 ¼”h. Made in the U.S.A.
