Culture: Prefers partial shade or morning sun and rich, well-prepared garden loam which is evenly moist. Avoid covering the crown when planting. A side dressing of compost or mulch is beneficial. Reaches 2 to 3 feet high

European Columbines have a long and colorful history in cultivation dating back to the medieval period. Illustrations of both single and double sorts appear in sixteenth-century herbals and other illuminated manuscripts. ‘Munstead White’ is a handsome and very vigorous form selected by early twentieth-century garden writer and designer Gertrude Jekyll in her garden at Munstead Wood in Surry, England.
