A “housewife” is a pocket case for sewing equipment. Virginia Randolph wrote, “[My time] is divided between the duties of hospitality … keeping house … and the sewing work I am always obliged to do.”

Martha Jefferson Randolph carried a little pocket sewing kit similar to this one. As her daughters grew up, she made them each a kit of their own for mending and sewing. This sewing case is made of reproductions of early 19th century calicos similar to those available to Mrs. Randolph.

Kit contains:
Thread, needles & pins, needle threader, embroidery scissors, buttons.

The kit rolls up and ties for carrying.

Contains sharp objects: not intended for children under 8 years old.
