Monticello is surrounded with flower gardens designed by Thomas Jefferson. Twenty oval flowerbeds are tucked in the corners around his home and his expansive West Lawn is bordered by a spectacular floral display. The following seven annual flowers provide the backbone of blossoms through the summer season at Monticello. Cockscomb, French Mallow, Globe Amaranth, Joseph's Coat, Love-in-the-Mist, Pincushion Flower, and Sensitive Plant.
