The form of this chair, with its elegant saber legs, is reminiscent of classical design, and that was probably the basis of the appeal of this design for Jefferson. Jefferson acquired a suite of twelve chairs upholstered in crimson damask. The suite included two bergères (upholstered easy chairs) and ten fauteuils (arm chairs).
