Jefferson’s central reference to herbs lists sixteen medicinal, fragrant, and culinary herbs including mint and rosemary. His gardens also produced several varieties of nuts and small fruits, including walnuts and wild cherries. Like all produce of Jefferson’s gardens, the Monticello kitchen used these items in their cooking, primarily for adding flavor to favorite dishes.
